How to stay safe in the internet

It is child safety week and here are a few reasons on how to stay safe:
  • Do not trust anyone on the internet, even if they say you are their friend (they could be impersonators)
  • Do not give/post personal information about yourself or anyone else on the internet (things like pictures/ names/ addresses)
  • Be careful about programs that you download or websites or pop-ups you subscribe you because they could be scams or viruses in seek of your personal information.
  • Be wary of internet phishing scams. Don't fall for deals like "you've won $1000000 USD! Please list your information below and we'll send you the money!"
  • Limit yourself on what you post on social media. Don't go so far as to handing out personal information when people aske for it because there are very bad people.
  • Protect your email by creating powerful passwords. 1234 is not sufficient as it is easily guessable.
  • Never meet with someone you don't know on the internet and if you do always tell your parents where you are going.
  • Don't share any banking information on the internet.
  • Don't fall prey to cyber bullying and if you do experience it report immediately or block that person on the social media engine or website.
